The International Violin Making Competition

The International Violin Making Competition first took place in Mittenwald in 1989. Since then, this competition has been held every four years, in 1993, 1997, 2001 and 2005.

In addition to the prizes awarded for the best of the violins, violas and cellos as well as for bows for violin, viola and cello, in 2005 there were a number of other special awards given out by the Bavarian Prime Minister, by different organizations and by private sponsors.

In the violin making section of the competition in 2005, instruments made by Park Soung Hyun and Susanne Gebardt were awarded gold medals.

Mittenwald`s 6th International Violin Making Competition take place in Mai 2010.
